POLICE ARREST ANAMBRA VIGILANCE COMMANDER FOR ALLEGED TORTURE OF POLICE WOMAN

The Police Command in Anambra State says it has arrested a commander of Anambra vigilante services who tortured a policewoman in a now trending video.

A video had surfaced on the internet on Wednesday, showing the vigilance commander harassing a policewoman and torturing her.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement notes that following the trending video on social media, where some members of the Anambra Vigilante group (AVG), were seen harassing and torturing a female in their office at Awuda Nnobi, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, ordered immediate arrest of the commander and investigation had since commenced.

According to the statement, Mr. Echeng describes the act as cowardly and assures that the command is always ready to protect women against violence, even when the person is not of the security community.

It said the Police Commissioner also thanked the members of the public on their advocacy in condemning the act and protecting the female gender.
