POLICE ARREST 15 ELECTORAL OFFENDERS IN ANAMBRA

Police say seventeen suspects were arrested for various electoral offences during the just concluded House of Assembly election in Anambra State.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye, who presided over election security in the state, made this known while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Awka.

The interview was to get update on the five suspects arrested in Ihiala on the election day.

According to the Police Commissioner, 15 of the suspects were apprehended for various offences, including attempt to snatch ballot boxes, attempt to disrupt election and threat of violence.

Mr. Adeoye said two other suspects, who were arrested for flouting the restriction order on movement, were in custody for driving with fake presidency number plates.

The Police Commissioner said the 17 suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department (CID) to ascertain their motives and sponsors.

The Supervisory Commissioner of Police assured that the suspects would be handed over to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for prosecution after investigations, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
