POLICE ARREST 10 YOUTHS FOR PASTOR’S DEATH, BURNING OF TWO BUILDINGS IN EBONYI

  Police in Ebonyi State have arrested ten youths over alleged involvement in the rampage, which claimed the life of a pastor and the burning of houses belonging to Abakaliki Local Government Chairman and a Hotel owned by his aide at Hatchery Road Abakaliki.

A statement by the Assistant Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mr. Philip Levi, explained that the rampage involved the youths of Ebiaunuhu community in Abakaliki Local Government Area, who accused the Chairman’s aide, Mr. Okechukwu Onyibe, of masterminding the death of an eighteen year old Oluchi Nwibo.

The statement further explained that the death of the pastor, whose name was given as Emeka Onu, occurred when he was hit by a stray bullet from a gun duel between the youths who were armed with sophisticated weapons and police operatives deployed to Hatchery Road to quell the rampage.

It noted that the Police Command had commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives while investigations into the remote causes of the rampage had commenced. 

According to the statement, the said aide to the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Okechukwu Onyibe, who was accused of causing the death of the youth, is also in Police custody.
