POLICE ARRAIGN SELF STYLED VIGILANTE IN COURT FOR MURDER IN EBONYI

Police in Ebonyi State have arraigned one Hossana Aja before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court for an alleged killing of a thirty-five year old man, Chukwudi Chukwu, at Mebiokpa Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The suspect, who was said to be a self styled vigilante, was arraigned on a two count charge of unlawful possession of fire arm and murder of Mr. Chukwu with his locally made double barrel gun at a wake at Okposi.

After reading the charge, the suspect did not take his plea as the Magistrate, Blessing Ibeabuchichukwu, declared that the court lacked the jurisdiction to try the matter.

She therefore ordered that the suspect be remanded in correctional centre while the case was adjourned until May 7, 2021 for report of compliance.

Radio Nigeria observed that the suspect was not represented by a counsel but the Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Ugochukwu Obasi, said it would not affect the trial as he would be assigned one when the case would be transferred to the High Court.
