POCACOV INAUGURATION IN ENUGU IGP Advises Youths to Shun Acts Capable of Jeopardizing their career

Youths have been advised to keep away from activities capable of ruining their career, but contribute to national development.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu gave the advice in a message to the National inauguration of Police Campaign Against Cultism and other Related Vices, POCACOV in Enugu.

The IG represented by Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone Nine, Mr Bobo Tijani stated that the cardinal objective of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and other Related Vices was to re-awoken the security consciousness of the members of the public to cultism menace.

Mr Tijani also noted that the objective involved educating relevant stakeholders including traditional rulers, town union presidents, youth leaders on the need to know proper identity of their subjects and members in relation to what they do.

In an opening remark, the Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional rulers, represented by the Traditional ruler of Udi Ancient Kingdom, Igwe Chris Ogakwu who regretted that societal ills had pervaded the country noted that the event would not have come at any other time better than now.

In a welcome addressed by the Chief host, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi presented by the Enugu State Head of Service, Mr Chidi Ezema, the Governor applauded the Police for stepping up surveillance in the area and pledged support to the Command to ensure that criminality was stamped out of the State.

In an overview of the POCACOV campaign, the National Coordinator of the programme, the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, pointed out that cultism and drug abuse had become major challenges confronting Nigerian society today, as members were now drawn from not only students but artisans and traders.

Stakeholders in security affairs in the country including the military and Para military agencies attended the event.

Goodwill messages were presented on the occasion by individuals from different spheres of life including the Technical/Special Adviser to the IGP, Professor Olu Ogunsaki.

Highpoints of the occasion were the formal inauguration of NYSC POCACOV Community Service and unveiling of POCACOV Ambassadors.
