PANIC AS POLICE ARREST UCHE NWOSU DURING CHURCH SERVICE

REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU

There was panic today at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State when armed men stormed the church and abducted Chief Uche Nwosu, a son-in-law to Senator Rochas Okorocha.

Reports say gun men who dressed in police uniform interrupted the outing service of the late mother of Chief Uche Nwosu, who was buried on Wednesday last week, and started shooting sporadically before taking away the Chief of Staff to former Governor Okorocha.

Chief Nwosu, who was also the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in 2019 election in Imo State, was bundled into the back of a vehicle and whisked away, thereby creating an atmosphere of fear in the community.

Some eye witnesses however perceived the incident as an arrest from very high security authorities, especially when the security personnel attached to Chief Nwosu did not make any attempt to resist the seeming abduction of their principal.

Meanwhile the Imo State Police Command has confirmed that Chief Uche Nwosu, the Son-in-law to former Governor of the State Chief Rochas Okorocha is in their custody.

In a statement the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Micheal Abattam, said contrary to reports that the former governorship candidate of the Action Alliance was abducted, it was the Police that arrested him.

The statement gave an assurance that the Police was committed to ensuring safety of lives and property during and after the Yuletide.

The Statement was however silent on the reason for the arrest.
