OVER EIGHTY PENSIONERS BENEFIT FROM THE NULGE EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME IN ENUGU
Succor has come to over eighty retired Local Government workers and families of deceased members in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The welfare scheme of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, empowered the pensioners with cheques.
Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries at Ogunite, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Kenneth Ugwueze said the aim of the welfare package was to assist the pensioners to meet some of their needs.
He commended the State Government for its commitment in addressing the plights of workers in the state and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the fund wisely.
The Chairman of the welfare Scheme and Deputy State President of NULGE, Comrade Udagha Ani explained that the money was contributed by members during service years saying that the package was a pat on their back for serving the state meritoriously.
Comrade Ani stated that the welfare scheme was restricted to Local Government workers in Enugu state and thanked the State President of NULGE for sustaining the tradition.
Another member of the Welfare Committee, Comrade Jonas notes that remembering the retirees and deceased members serves as motivation to those in active service and urged government at all levels to prioritize the welfare of pensioners.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed joy for the shown to them noting that the fund would go a long way in meeting their needs.
More than ten Local Government in the State so far benefited from the scheme.
