ORGANISIED LABOUR IN EBONYI PROTEST FED MORTGAGE BANK SALE OF LOW HOUSING UNITS IN ABAKALIKI

The Organised Labour in Ebonyi State has called on the Federal government to investigate an alleged failure by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria to accommodate workers in the state in the sale of housing units at NLC, TUC and NECA Housing Estate Ugwuachara in Abakaliki.

Protesting against what it described as illegal sale of the housing units in Abakaliki, the NLC Chairman in the State, Mr Ikechukwu Nwafor alleged that the beneficiaries of the low cost housing units constrcucted under National Affordable Housing Delivery Programme were not workers from the state.

He described the development as discouraging considering that the Organised Labour in the state had qualified members who had contributed to the National Housing Fund for over twenty years to have benefitted from.tge housing schemr.

Comrade Nwafor called on the Minister of Works and Housing to review the list of beneficiaries which he alleged were selected from other states.

The Executive Director, Business Development and Portfolio Management Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Mr Kingsley Chukwuma explained that the beneficiaries were selected based on merit but promised to look into the protest by workers in the state.

Governor David Umahi had while inaugurating the Estate noted that workers in the state deserve the best emphasising that he was impressed by the quality of work done at the Estate.

He added that more housing Estates would soon be completed in the state emphasising that they would go a long way towards solving the shelter needs of workers in the state.
