OBIANO EXTOLS NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra has commended the Armed Forces for their critical role in ensuring the unity of the nation.

Governor Obiano gave the commendation during the 2019 Wreath Laying and Parade Ceremonies to mark the end of the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration at Ekwueme Square, Awka.

He said the nation would continue to remember the personnel of the Armed Forces, especially the fallen heroes due to their contributions to the development of the country.

The Governor encouraged them to continue to do their best, especially in the fight against insurgents and restoring peace to every part of the country.

“We remember them, particularly the fallen ones and is an opportunity to encourage all our soldiers that are fighting for our peace, liberty and prosperity for God to guide and protect them”

The Secretary of the Nigeria Legion in Anambra State, retired Major Ben Agbogu, called for improved welfare and jobs for their members as well as assistance to widows to help them cater for their families.

A representative of the widows of the fallen heroes, Mrs. Victoria Oriola, noted that they were passing through difficult moments and called for goverment’s assistance in alleviating their plight.

The Ceremonies featured laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph by Governor Obiano, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chief Judge, Service Commanders and representatives of the Legion, Traditional Rulers and widows.

There were also the release of pigeons as a symbol of peace, firing of gun salutes and inspection of parade by the Governor.
