NYSC DISAPPOINTED WITH CONDITION OF INFRACTURE AT ENUGU PERMANENT ORIENTATION CAMP, AGWU

The NYSC, National Governing Board, has expressed its dismay with the deplorable state of the Enugu permanent orientation camp, Agwu.

The management of the scheme also called on the state government to embark on urgent upgrade of the facilities in the camp and give the environment a facelift.

The Chairman of the Board, Ambassador Fatima Bala Abubakar, made this known on Friday during an inspection tour on the facility on her official duty.

Mrs. Abubarkar said that she was shocked at the state of the orientation camp, adding that the infrastructure were below standard and deplorable.

She, however, applauded the corps members for not allowing the dilapidated state of the environment to affect them negatively.

“I am glad you have been participating in all activities in spite of the condition of the camp. These are the type of children we are proud of,” she said.

The NYSC Board Chairman described the structure used as a make-shift hall in the orientation camp as an eyesore and not suitable for such purpose.

Mrs. Abubakar said that by the NYSC rules, it was the responsibility of the host state government to maintain and provide the necessary facilities in the orientation camp in its domain.

She said that she would use her official visit to the state to appeal to the state government to urgently intervene in the matter.

“It is the responsibility of the state government to provide everything that will make you comfortable in camp.

“I will be meeting with the Secretary to the State Government today and we will talk to them about what needs to be done to make you comfortable.

“If nothing is done by the state government within two weeks, we will explore other means to see that something is done,” she said.

Mrs. Abubarkar urged the corps members to be security conscious and obey all camp regulations.

Earlier, while reeling out the score card of the Batch A, Stream Two Orientation, the Enugu State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Ujogu, thanked the board for the visit, saying that the corps members were of excellent behaviour, disciplined, motivated and responding well to the demands of the programme.

The Enugu State Permanent Orientation Camp Agwu is the fourth state visited by the NYSC Governing Board in its ongoing national tour.
