NYG: TEAM ANAMBRA STORM ASABA, TO COMPETE IN 20 SPORTING EVENTS

The Anambra State contingent to the 8th National Youth Games has departed Awka for Asaba with a contingent of 173 team members.
The team, which left the Archbishop Obiefuna Retreat Centre Camp, comprised 124 athletes, and 49 officials.
The festival is expected to hold from September 9 to19 while the opening ceremony would be on the September 11.
Anambra State would take part in 20 sporting events, including Athletics, Para-athletics, Gymnastics
Scrabble, Chess, Table Tennis, Swimming,
Judo, Ncho/Ayo, Teackeando, and Karate.
Others are Weightlifting, Kungfu, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Wrestling, Boxing and Badminton.
Addressing the team before their departure, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, in a message, encouraged the athletes to be worthy ambassadors of the state and do their best to make Anambra State proud at the festival.
Governor Soludo, who was represented by his Principal Secretary, Mr. Nonso Anozie, said a handsome reward awaited them while urging them to surpass their performance at the previous editions of the festival.
Chairman, Anambra Sports Development Commission, Mr. Patrick Onyedum, thanked the Governor for his support and ensuring that talented youths had the opportunity to compete with their contemporaries.
Mr. Onyedum said the team was made up of athletes under the age of 15 in line with the policy of development strategy of the state.
He expressed the hope that the Team Anambra would do well at the games.
Anambra State won seven gold, six silver and two bronze medals at the 2023 edition of the National Youth Games.
