Nursing and pregnant women urged to eat more of vegetables & fruits for healthy living. – UNICEF

Families especialy children, nursing and pregnant women are encouraed to eat more of vegetables and fruits for healthy living.
The Chairman,Enugu State Food and Nutrition Commitee Mr Casmir Ugwu gave the advice during a workshop on, “domestication of 2016 food and nutrition policy: finalizing the multi-sectoral costed strategic plan of action”, in Enugu.
Mr Ugwu who is also the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Budget and planning explained that food sufficiency and affordability remain key policies of Enugu state government.


Speaking on eradication of malnutrition and extreme hunger in Africa, The Chief United Nations’ Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Enugu Field Office Dr Ibrahim Conteh called for more investment in agriculture to boost food production. Dr Conteh advocated sustained government policy that targets the nutrition of infants,children,women and girls to enhance their survuval and wellbeing.
Earlier in an address,the wife of the Enugu state governor, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi called on mothers to utilize money for feeding on nutritious foods and not on materialism.
Two of the participants said that the workshop highlighted local delicacies that are rich in nutrients. The workshop which was organised by the Enugu State Food and Nutrition Committee with support from unicef, was attended by many top government officials including the Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development Princess Peace Nnaji, members of the diplomatic corps and oversea development partners.There were paper presentations by experts in food and nutrition.
