The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State has arrested two men for their alleged involvement in the vandalism and sale of government property.

Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Umuahia, the Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Vincent Oguh, said that the men were arrested at Ekenobizi Umuokpara in Umuahia after a tipoff while trying to convey some goverment materials in form of scraps.

Mr. Oguh pointed out that his men under the Anti-Vandalism Unit had intensified surveillance on the activities of scrap dealers in the state.

He said the vandalized items were concealed inside a truck and covered with scraps in order to beat security personnel on the road.

In an interview, one of the suspects, Sunday Boniface, who claimed to be the driver of the truck, denied been involved in any act of vandalism of government property.

He stated that he was only contracted by some people to convey items for them.

The NSCDC Commandant warned vandals to stay away from such acts, noting that the command would deal decisively with anyone caught.
