NSCDC ARRESTS 24-YEAR-OLD SUSPECTED ROBBER WITH IMPROVISED PISTOL IN ENUGU

An armed robbery suspect, one Oguchi Kenneth Oguamnam, has been arrested for allegedly dispossessing members of the public of their belongings using improvised pistol at WTC, Estate, Enugu South Local Government.

A Team of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC) Enugu attached to the Estate, arrested the suspect, who hails from Mbaitolu, in Imo State, resides at No 7 Monarch Avenue by Timber junction, near Ugwuaji, Enugu.

The NSCDC team recovered three ATM cards, five SIM cards, Voter’s Card, substance suspected to be Cannabis and Android phones from the suspect.

The Public Relations Officer, NSCDC, Enugu State Command, Mr. Denny-emmanuel Iwuchukwu, while parading the suspect, said students who were going home after their Senior Secondary Certificate Examination suddenly started running to different directions in a confused manner which attracted the attention of officers on duty who eventually arrested of the suspect.

“The students were pointing to a young man standing nearby and informed the security men that the young man was with a gun trying to snatch someone’s phone hence they started running for safety.

“On hearing that, our men moved to the direction of the man, who on sighting the officers tried to escape but was caught,” Mr. Iwuchukwu narrated.

According to the NSCDC Spokesperson, on interrogation, the suspect admitted to be working with a criminal gang based in Lagos.

“He revealed that the gang usually pay money into his account, which he will withdraw and pay into whatever account they send to him and takes his percentage,” Mr. Iwuchukwu stated.

The suspect, Oguchi Kenneth Oguamnam, told reporters that it was not his intension to commit the offense.

He claimed that some group of boys once robbed him in the estate, and that he made the improvised pistol to use it as a revenge whenever he saw any of the boys.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, told journalists that the suspect would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
