NSCDC APPREHENDS SUSPECTED GUN RUNNER IN IMO

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Imo State Command has arrested a 27 year old man, Chetachi Ibe, in connection with alleged armed robbery and gun running in the state.

Parading the suspect at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri, the State Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Micheal Ogar, said the man, who hailed from Akaeze in Ebonyi State, had been on the run since December 2021 when 34 assault rifles were discovered from the suspect’s hideout.

The NSCDC Commandant explained that the suspect was arrested by his men following intelligence.

Mr. Ogar noted that live ammunition, 15 automated teller machine cards, cheque book belonging to a company and identity cards of those believed to have been his victims were recovered from the suspect.

“We arrested him of armed robbery and gun running. Those rifles that were recovered were linked to where he was staying.

We also recovered 9mm 50 ammunition for pistol from him. We also recovered 15 ATM Cards and 7 identity cards, one of which belonged to a Road safety officer and 2 couples have come here to confirm that this young man robbed them of #250,000 and a POS machine,”, the NSCDC boss said.

Mr. Ogar stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court when investigation was concluded.

The suspect, who claimed to be an artisan, however denied any involvement in the crime.

NSCDC in Imo State had on December 3, 2021 displayed a total of 34 assault rifles uncovered from a hideout in Owerri and vowed to apprehend those behind it.

Meanwhile, the Commandant, Mr. Ogar, used the forum to commend the Imo State Government for donating additional 4 patrol vehicles to the Command to boost its activities.

He promised to sustain the current effort of the Corps to curb crime in the state.
