NEMA/SEMA PROMISE FLOOD DISPLACED PERSONS IN ANAMBRA OF BETTER DAYS AHEAD

Flood displaced persons taking refuge at Holding Camps have been re-assured of robust Government support.

A delegation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on flood impact assessment gave the assurance when they visited holding camps set up across Anambra State.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Chukwuma Onyejekwe from SEMA, announced that government’s preparedness to offer the flood victims basic and necessary assistance throughout their stay at the holding camps.

Mr. Onyejekwe, who explained that holding camps provided were big enough to accommodate as many people as possible, further appealed to public-spirited individuals to assist government and its agencies in supporting the internally displaced persons in their communities.

For his part, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government whose council area was affected by the flood, Mr. Pascal Aniegbunam, who was part of the delegation, promised to ensure that holding camps within his council area were as conducive as possible.

The Flood Local Emergency Committee Chairman in-charge of Ogbaru Local Council Area, Mr. Ben Nwasike, expressed appreciation for the support NEMA and SEMA had been offering to assist those affected by the flood.

One of the Internally Displaced persons at one of the holding camps visited, Mrs. Ijeoma Okechukwu, who spoke with Radio Nigeria, appealed to both Federal and State Governments to look for permanent solution to the yearly flooding that had been causing so much havoc to the coastal communities.
