NEMA, SEMA ALERT ANAMBRA COMMUNITIES ON IMPENDING FLOOD

Communities in Anambra East, Anambra West and Ayamelum Local Government Areas of Anambra State have been charged to take precautionary measures as flooding looms in their areas.

A combined team of members of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) gave the warning when they visited the communities on a flood sensitization campaign.

Speaking during the event, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Mr. Paul Odenigbo, represented by Mr. Chukwudi Onyejekwu, advised members of the communities to take precautionary measures in order to avert and mitigate flood related challenges this year.

In his remark, the Zonal Coordinator, South East Zone of National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Thickman Tanimu, represented by Head of Department, Planning and Research, Mr. Nnanyelugo Ezeani, advised residents of the communities to stop building houses and structures on waterways and flood prone areas.

In his contribution, the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Mr. Felix Ikechi noted that the visit and messages of SEMA and NEMA were well received and would be acted upon by the people.

For his part, the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr. Anselem Onuorah, said the visit and message of the two emergency management agencies were timely as it would help the people in preparing ahead of the looming flood crisis.

Similarly, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ayamelum Local Government Area, Mr. Livinus Onyenwe, represented by Mr. Valentine Onuorah, assured that he would ensure that the message got to the people of his communities so as to enable them to mitigate the adverse effects of flooding, which had always affected his people on yearly basis.
