NEMA DONATES RELIEF MATERIALS TO IDP CAMPS IN ANAMBRA
REPORTER: CHRIS OBILERI
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has presented relief materials worth millions of naira to Ogwuaniocha and Ogwuikpele communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State following their displacement by communal conflicts.
As a result of the displacement and insecurity in the two riverine communities, the areas are no longer accessible while most of them were settling in holding camps.
The relief materials were mattresses, mats, mosquito nets, wrappers, bags of rice and garri, tomato paste, groundnut oil among others.
At the event held at Okoti-Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubgaida Umar, said the materials were provided to give them succour and a sense of belonging, having been displaced over time.
Mrs. Umar, who was represented by the South East Zonal Co-ordinator of NEMA, Mrs. Ngozi Echazu, noted that the federal government’s intervention was a result of a motion raised by the the member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Victor Ogene over their plight.
She appealed to the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the items, while promising to provide for other displaced communities in near future.
Two the beneficiaries, Mr. Peter Ebiza and Mr. Joseph Uzor, thanked the federal government for the gesture while calling for peaceful resolution of the conflict to enable them to go back to their ancestral communities.
The event was graced by officials of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency and their local government counterpart.
