NBS KICKS OFF 6TH ROUND OF MULTIPLE INDICATOR CLUSTER SURVEY & NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION COVERAGE SURVEY IN EBONYI

The Federal Government through the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has embarked on the sixth round of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey and National Immunization Coverage Survey in thirty-seven thousand households across the country.

At the launch of the exercise in Abakaliki, Governor David Umahi noted that efforts were on to develop Ebonyi State data room to guide the state government on policy formulation. The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey and National Immunization Coverage Survey are primary sources of information on women and children as they provide statistical indicators that are critical to the measurement of human development in the country.

Governor Umahi, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Orlando Nweze, described the exercise as imperative in national economic planning as it would redirect the attention of the government to areas of needs. He noted that his administration had taken revolutionary steps in various sectors and would be interested in data generated from the exercise while efforts were on to create a mechanism for state data room.

The State Officer, National Bureau of Statistics, Mr. Benjamin Orji, noted that two models had been included in the questionnaire while targeted household members were children as well as men and women of productive age.

The Director State Statistics, Mr. Moses Uto and a Monitor from the National Bureau of statistics Abuja, Miss Loveth Odiakpa, said with the aid of GPS, the chances of falsifying information to be generated from about fifty Enumeration Areas had been eliminated. Radio Nigeria gathered that the exercise would last for sixty-five days.
