The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Imo State Command, wants parents and guardians to be conscious of the whereabouts of the children and wards.

The Imo State Commander of the Agency, Mr. Enerst Ogbu, made the call while speaking with journalists in Owerri on the increasing rate of child trafficking in the area.

Mr. Ogbu said Imo State is one of the states with a high rate of human trafficking in the country, considering plethora of petitions on missing children in the area.

The NAPTIP Commander noted that the army in the state bursted a kidnapping syndicate which specialises in stealing children from Imo State and selling them off to an orphanage in Portharcourt.

He said that the suspected kidnapper, Mrs. Joy Duru and the owner of Nneolu orphanage in Portharcourt, Mrs. Favour Amaegbule, were cooling off in the police custody.

The NAPTIP Commander announced that the troop also recovered two toddlers who have been reunited with their various families and a pregnant girl who is under the safe custody of the State Ministry of Women affairs.

Mr. Ogbu advised traffickers in the state to desist from the heinous crime or face the wrath of the law, when caught.

The NAPTIP boss thanked the military and all the sister security agencies for their support and appealed to the state government to provide the agency with a good shelter and operational vehicles.
