MOTORISTS URGED TO ALWAYS IMBIBE SAFETY CULTURE WHILE ON THE ROAD

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State says his administration willcontinue to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC towardsensuring adequate safety on the highways.

Governor Ikpeazu stated this in a message to the commencement of 2017 End of Year Patrol Campaign of the FRSCinUmuahia.

The Governor represented by the General Manager, Abia State Passengers Integration Manifest and Safety Scheme, Mr Kingsley Megwara urged motorists to always imbibe safety culture while on the road by observing various traffic rules and regulations.

 

He noted that his administration would setup a task force that wouldmonitor motor parks in the state to ensure that alcohol and other harddrugs were not sold inside the parks.

The Zonal Commander, FRSC Enugu Zone,Mr Samuel Obayemi said that the corps was saddled with the mandate of making the highways safe for motorists and other road users through public enlightenment.

In an address, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Abia State Command, Mr Linus Ojukwu identified some of the factors that could lead to road crashes to include poor maintenance of vehicles, poor driving skills, excessive speeding, reckless driving and driving under alcoholicinfluence.

 

He urged government at all levels to ensure that they carried outpalliative repairs on the roads to assist in reducing gridlocks andblack spot on the roads.

High point of the event was a sensitization road show on safety on thehighway by the officers and men of the corps.

The theme of the sensitization program isRight to life on the Highway not negotiable.”
