Ebonyi State Government has suspended all civil servants from Effium and Ezza Effium warring communities in Ohaukwu Local Government Area in connection with the recent killing of innocent Nigerians in the area.

Governor David Umahi announced the suspension during a meeting with traditional rulers, stakeholders and leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ebonyi State chapter at Government House Abakaliki.

Governor Umahi briefed the stakeholders on the killing of five engineers supervising Abakaliki Ring Road and the attack on police operatives resulting in the abduction of two policemen by warlords.

The Governor announced the suspension of the salaries of Permanent Secretaries from the warring communities and removal of two Coordinators of Development Centres in the area, alleging that they were using their salaries to fund the war.

“Recently, five construction workers on the state’s ring road, which passes through the area, were killed by unknown people and these workers who know nothing about the crisis were here to help the state,” the Governor lamented.

Chief Umahi emphasized that he would approach the State House of Assembly to remove the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Mr Clement Odah and the member representing Ohaukwu North, Mr. Chinedu Awoh, for their involvement in the lingering war.

“The suspects arrested over the incident confessed that the workers have been killed and buried and the government in pacifying the affected families, sought to know the location of where they were buried,” Governor Umahi revealed.

Chief Umahi gave stakeholders from the area seven days to wade in and find out where the corpses of the engineers were buried and the release of the police operatives abducted to avert impending military operation to flush out the warlords.

“The hoodlums ambushed the security team, who went to the area and officers have been reported killed or missing,” the Governor remarked.

He added that the families of the slain engineers had insisted that their corpses be made available to them in Enugu.
