LARGESSE FOR ANAMBRA FARMERS AS GOV OBIANO LAUNCHES 2021 WET SEASON FARMING.

The 2021 wet season farming has officially commenced in Anambra State with distribution of
inputs to farmers in the area.

Things distributed to farmers were agro input, inorganic fertilisers, cassava stem bundles, certified rice seeds, okro and tomato seeds, animal feed for sheep and goats.

The event, which has as its theme,” “Empowering the Youth in Agriculture for Sustainable Development,” also witnessed agric fair, launch of agric compendium, among others.

On the occasion, Governor Obiano who said that it would be his last official declaration of the commencement of the wet farming season, pointed out that his administration had succeeded in putting measures in place for sustainable agriculture.

Governor Obiano described the ceremony as his parting gift to Anambra farmers and urged farmers to make judicious use of of the gesture.

He said that three things, which were important in agriculture were suitablilty, ability to protect environment and offer economic opportunities.

Governor Obiano called on the people of the state, especially youths to venture into agriculture.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba, explained that over one thousand youths from three senatorial zones of the state would be engaged in rice production in the over 1,177 hectares of land developed at Ndikelionwu in Orumba North and Ogbakuba in Ogbaru LGAs.

This he said would be done under the Anambra State Government /CBN loan scheme expected to increase the overall rice production from 44,000 metric tonnes in 2020 to 525,000 metric tonnes in 2021.

The Agriculture Commissioner also explained that there are two fish villages under construction in Adazi Nnukwu and Aguleri with a total of 600 ponds, which would further engage 600 youths when completed.

In an interview, the member representing Njikoka II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Pete Ibida, said that the present administration had invested so much in agriculture, which made it possible for farmers in the state to engage in all year farming.

The Chairman All Famers Association of Nigeria (ALFAN) in the state, Chief Leonard Ukatu, thanked the Governor for supporting farmers in the state in ensuring that agriculture thrived.

Earlier the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono represented by Mr. Author Mbuba, commended Anambra State Government for investing and keying into the Federal Government’s agricultural policies.
