The Vice President Nigeria Association of Women journalists (NAWOJ) South East Zone, Comrade Stella Igboka, has called for more gender balance in the political space in order to give women proper voice.

Comrade Igboka made the call in a statement issued in Awka to mark the 2021 International Women’s Day.

She expressed regret that the political gap had slowed down the pace of women emancipation and denied them platform to agitate for their well being and right.

The NAWOJ Vice President described this year’s Theme, “I choose to Challenge” as apt and encouraged women to challenge the erroneous believe that they are inferior but always strive to proove their metal in their various fields of endeavour.

Comrade Igboka applauded Nigerian women who had distinguished themselves and made female gender proud.

She called for more opportunities by appointment of more women in political offices for economic growth and development.

The NAWOJ Southeast leader further called for the abolition of existing gender discriminatory laws and other harmful cultural practices that had for decades impeded the rights of women and affirmed NAWOJ’s commitment in aggressive sensitization to Women on their legal rights.
