INFLUX OF ADULTS FROM NORTH TO SOUTH EAST SUSPICIOUS AND SECURITY THREAT —IGBO THINK TANK GROUP
As reactions continue to trail the illegal movement of some people of northern Nigeria origin, which some people tagged Almajari, into South Eastern part of Nigeria, a group known as Igbo Oriental Think Tank has asked the Federal Government and security agencies to immediately stop the movement.
The Coordinating Secretary of the group, Dr. Kenneth Anozie, who stated this during an international press conference in Enugu, noted that the movement of these able bodied men, some of whom could not speak English and even possessed foreign passports, including those of Niger, Guinea and Sudan, is a serious concern to them.
Dr. Anozie hinted that threat by some Northern activists against the rejection of the Almajirai and influx of other adults from the north into the South East has heightened the suspicion that they were sponsored to commit crime.
He noted that those of them clutching AK47 and machetes ran into forest when confronted by local vigilance groups.
”From all indications, and the manner this influx are occuring, it will appear that the export of these human cargoes from the Northern part of Nigeria and other countries are well organized, prudently executed and meticulously delivered. So the question is; who are those behind this human export to the southern part of Nigeria,?” Dr. Anozie queried.
The Coordinating Secretary wondered why security agencies manning various state borders would allow Almajirai to move, despite the 8pm to 6am nationwide curfew and ban on inter-state movement imposed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Dr. Anozie, “Recently, the Federal Government imposed an 8pm-6am curfew across the Nigeria. If you sneak out during these unholy hours, one will see long vehicles hauling human cargoes from northern part of Nigeria to the various States in the southern part of Nigeria.”
The Igbo Oriental Think Tank called on political leaders from South East to rise and defend the people in order to allay existential threat and fear caused by this unholy movement of the suspects.
Dr. Anozie said that the authorities should work with community/Local vigilance groups to flush out these dangerous elements currently inhabiting the bushes in various parts of the country, especially in the south eastern part.
Igbo Oriental Think Tank also demanded the stoppage of incessant killings of innocent Nigerians by security operatives on the excuse of enforcing government’s lockdown protocol, with specific reference to the killings at Nkpor and Enugwu-Ukwu communities in Anambra State, as well as those in Rivers and Delta States.
The group while commending the diligent efforts of the Federal Government to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, also noted that all the strata of the government should strengthen the boundary restrictions to stem the movement of these unauthorized persons to strengthen the faith of the people of the South-East and South-south regions.
