INEC IN EBONYI STRATEGIZES TO ENSURE FREE AND FAIR 2019 POLLS

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ebonyi State is to deploy two thousand, eight hundred and five functional Smart Card Readers to Polling Units across the State in next year’s general elections to enhance hitch-free exercise in the area.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Professor Godswill Obioma stated this while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki on the level of preparation of the Commission ahead of the elections.

He explained that measures had been put in place by the Commission to ensure free and fair elections in the state during the period.

Professor Obioma noted that the Smart Card Readers and their backups that would last about three days would be deployed by the Commission to all the Polling Units to ensure the success of the elections.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner stated that trained Resident Technicians would also be deployed to all Electoral Wards in the State for the maintenance of the Card Readers in case of breakdown.

 According to Professor Obioma, the Commission has designed election project strategic plans which include transportation and security strategies that will ensure credible elections.
