INDEPENDENCE: UMAHI DOLES OUT #1.2BN AS EMPOWERMENT FUND

Ebonyi State Government has doled out #1.2 billion to about eighth thousand beneficiaries as empowerment grants in commemoration of the Nigeria’s Independence and 26th celebration of the creation of the state.

Governor David Umahi announced this at the grand finale of the country’s Independence Anniversary at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki.

Governor Umahi, who paid glowing tribute to a Former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, for the creation of Ebonyi State in 1996, explained that the government had developed the state enviably in line with the dreams of the founding fathers.

He noted that the #1.2 billion empowerment targeted micro, small and medium enterprises, small holder farmers, public and civil servants, noting that while the beneficiaries would receive #100,000 each, 13 communities would get #10 million each under CSDP NG Cares.

Governor Umahi assured the people of the state of smooth campaign ahead of the 2023 Election.

He noted that the state government would not discriminate against any political party but would enforce the regulations guiding the use of siren as people now use it as a cover to move arms into the state.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, said the people of the state were proud of the achievements of present and past administrations in the state.

Dr. Igwe emphasised that the infrastructure put in place were to reposition the state for positive economic growth.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chief Francis Nwifuru, attributed the advancement and development of the state to the synergy between the Executive and the Legislature and promised that the House would do more.

The event featured police parade and march past by school children, trade unions and party faithful.
