INADEQUATE TEST KITS RESPONSIBLE FOR RISING CASES OF COVID-19 IN EBONYI – GOV UMAHI

Ebonyi State Government has called on the Federal Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to step up supply of test kits to curb rising cases of Coronavirus disease at withholding centres across the state.

Governor David Umahi made the call in a statewide broadcast at Government House Abakaliki.

Governor Umahi pointed out that inadequate provision of test kits was responsible for eleven new coronavirus cases in the state, a situation which had moved the number of cases so far recorded in the area to thirty-three.

Chief Umahi expressed worry that due to lack of test kits, returnees were being held for about twenty-one days without testing, pointing out that the new cases occurred at withholding centres in Afikpo North and Ohaukwu Local Government Areas.

Governor Umahi disbanded Neighbourhood Watch Group for not living up to its responsibility of securing the boundary communities and urged the Traditional Rulers to recruit vigilantes for the job of intercepting returnees.
