Imo varsity lecturers suspend strike

Three m2016_06_23_11454onths after they embarked on an indefinite strike, Lecturers at the Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri Wednesday suspended it.
Through the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the lecturers had on March 21, 2016 embarked on an indefinite strike to press the state Government to pay them the arrears of their salaries and allowances.
On Wednesday, the institution’s Senate and the Governing Council met with the lecturers who agreed to suspend the strike immediately.
A lecturer in the university who pleaded anonymity said that they suspended the strike after the state government had paid them their salaries up to May and met their other demands.
He disclosed that the government and the lecturers agreed to set up a technical committee to look into the funding of the university to ensure academic excellence and productivity.
The state government had on Sunday announced that the strike had been called off.
