IMO STATE GOVT SET TO REPOSITION ITS CITADEL OF LEARNING

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State has challenged members of a visitation panel for Imo State University Owerri to find lasting solutions to the incessant loss of accreditation of courses offered by the Institution. The Governor gave the charge in Owerri while inaugurating members of visitation panels for the Imo State University Owerri, University Teaching Hospital Orlu and The Polytechnic Umuagwo.

He said the action was in response to series of complaints and petitions received from stakeholders in the institutions. Governor Ihedioha noted that the panels which would look into the activities of the institutions from 2012 to date were not intended to probe or witch-hunt anyone but to help reposition them to realize their mandates.

Chairman of the Visitation Panel for the Imo State University and former Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo noted that universities in the country appeared to have derailed from the intentions of the founding fathers. Professor Nebo who is a former Vice Chancellor University of Nigeria Nsukka promised to bring his experience to bear in carrying out the assignment. The visitation panel to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital is headed by a former Provost, College of Medicine Anambra State University Uli, Professor Frank Akpuaka while that of Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo has Professor Eugene Opara as the Chairman.
