ILLEGAL ARMS: NATFORCE TO ENGAGE 4,000 YOUTHS IN EBONYI

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The National Task Force on Prohibition of Illegal Importation/Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition, Light Weapons, Chemical Weapons and Pipeline Vandalism (NATFORCE) is to engage over 4,000 Youths in Ebonyi State to check light weapons proliferation.

The Director-General of NATFORCE, Dr. Baba Mohammed gave the indication during a visit to Governor David Umahi at Government House Abakaliki.

Dr. Muhammed said the Federal Government was determined to break the supply chain of light weapons within ECOWAS sub region and announced the designation of Ebonyi State as Zone 12 NATFORCE Headquarters.

“ECOWAS Member States consider the proliferation of small arms and light weapons as a major threat to peace and tranquillity within the region,” he said.

Governor Umahi blamed the deteriorating security situation in the country to the proliferation of light weapons but commended NATFORCE for rising up to the challenge.

He donated an office accommodation and Two Hilux Van to enhance the operations of the agency.

“I urge you to always carry all Nigerians along in whatever they are doing as it is the only way the citizens can feel and have that sense of belonging and the spirit of oneness will always be there,” Gov. Umahi advised.

The Governor promised to always give necessary support to NATFORCE.
