IGP ADAMU THROWS MORE SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY POLICING, SAYS STATE POLICE WILL BE COUNTER PRODUCTIVE

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Adamu, has called on the Police image makers to initiate programmes that will engage various communities in their commands.

The IGP says this is to reap the benefits of Community Policing, which is currently being supported by the federal government.

Mr. Adamu stated this during the closing of a four day capacity building conference organized for Police Public Relations Officers across the thirty six states of the country and the Federal Capital territory (FCT) held in Agulu, Anaocha Local government Area of Anambra State.

The Inspector General of Police claimed that State Police, being agitated for by some groups, would be counter- productive to the issue of policing in the country, hence the need to embrace Community Policing initiative.

He noted that the community policing programme could only be successful through the efforts of the image makers across the nation.

Mr. Adamu, who underscored the importance of social media to the operations of security agents, enjoined the Public Relations Officers to be abreast with the gains of the new media in order to reap the inherent benefits despite the difficulties they posed to policing.

Mr. Adamu cautioned them to be mindful of some of the issues they responded to and always study some trending stories carefully before responding in order not to heat up the polity.

Earlier, the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, commended the IGP for approving the workshop, promising that his office and the PPROs would utilize the knowledge garnered to the interest of the force and the country at large.
