Unknown gunmen have attacked and killed four policemen at two different check points in Anambra State.

According to eye witnesses, the gunmen opened fire on police officers conducting stop and search operation on Ekwulobia-Nkpologwu Road in Aguata Local Government Area killing two policemen before setting their vehicle ablaze.

Also, the hoodlums allegedly attacked another security check point at Omogho in Orumba North Local Government Area killing two other officers.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police in Anambra state, Mr. Monday Kuryas, had said the command was still doing preliminary investigation to ascertain the level of damage and casualties resulting from the Wednesday morning attack.

He made this know while speaking with journalists shortly after visiting the two incident scenes with other top ranking officers.

According to the Police Commissioner, the gunmen attacked in order to cause mayhem and tension but the police will not leave any stone unturned until the hoodlums are apprehended.

Mr. Kuryas, who visited the hospital where some of the wounded policemen were undergoing treatment, however said the development would not deter his men from providing adequate security to residents of the state.

The new Commissioner of Police, who also visited some security flash points within the state, said that he would strategize and reposition his men for optimal performance and effective policing.

He therefore encouraged officers and men in the state not to be demoralised by the few incidents but rather remain resolute and committed towards protection of lives and property in Anambra State.

Some of the security flash points visited by the Commissioner of Police included, Enugwu Agidi Toad, Ukwulu Road, Nkpor Junction, Toll Gate, Bridge Head, Upper Iweka and Owerri Road.
