GUNMEN KIDNAP 2 POLICEMEN, SHOOT LG CHAIRMAN IN EBONYI

Two Police officers have been abducted following an ambush on their convoy by over sixty suspected hoodlums operating in the war torn Ezza Effium axis in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mrs. Loveth Odah, explained that the policemen alongside other operatives had gone to Igbudoke Effium to negotiate with some hoodlums over the abduction of three Engineers working on Abakaliki Ring Road.

Mrs. Odah noted that the operatives, who were in company of the member representing Ohaukwu North constituency, Mr. Chinedu Awoh, and the Commander AK Police Squad, Bruno Chukwu, were returning to Abakaliki when it came under heavy fire.

“On 28/11/2021 at about 1340hrs while the Police Operatives were returning investigation activities in connection with the three missing engineers who were abducted in the same area on the 3rd of November, 2021 while on ring road site project, the operatives were in the company of Hon. Chinedu Awo a member Representing Ohaukwu North Constituency in the State House of Assembly who accompanied the operatives to enable him to dialogue with the warriors at Igbuduoke village in Effium/Ezza clan ‘the warring community’ in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State, they were ambushed by armed Ezza warriors numbering over sixty (60), who attacked them from all flanks but the operatives gallantry fought back, resulting in heavy casualties on the side of the attackers,” she said.

The police image maker said the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Aliyu Garba, headed a reinforcement team in search of the abducted police officers but they were not rescued.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Command CP. Aliyu Garba (psc+) led a convoy of about seven teams on reinforcement where they cordoned the forest and searched the village but could not see the missing officers nor the perpetrators.

“Efforts are in top gear to ensure the perpetrators are tracked down and arrested” the statement read.

Radio Nigeria gathered that three police officers, including Mr. Bruno, who were said to have sustained bullet wounds, were responding to treatment.
