A Mobile Police Officer has been shot dead following an attack by suspected hoodlums on Ohukwu Divisional Police Station in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, Mrs. Loveth Oda, told Radio Nigeria that the hoodlums attacked the police station with guns and petrol bombs at midnight.

She explained that two vehicles caught fire as a result of the petrol bomb launched at the station by the hoodlums before they were repelled.

“At about 23:50pm, yet to be identified gunmen came into Ohaukwu Divisional Headquarters but they were quickly repelled. In the process one Police Officer: a Sergeant paid the supreme sacrifice and they threw a petrol bomb into the police station and it caught one of the patrol and exhibit vehicles,” the PPRO narrated.

The Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Mr. Clement Oda, described the incident as unfortunate, noting that one of the offices at the station was badly damaged during the attack.

“The DPO’s office is intact but that of the DCO was badly damaged, this is the first of it kind and it will not happen again,” he boasted.

Meanwhile, Radio Nigeria gathered that security agencies and community leaders in the area were interfacing to ensure that the fleeing hoodlums were arrested.
