GUARDS APPREHEND TRANSFORMER VANDAL IN ANAMBRA

A 37 year old man has been apprehended by security guards as he was allegedly tempering with a transformer installed in a private hospital in Awka, Anambra State.

The suspect, who gave his name as Philemon Daniel, said he hails from Kaduna State but had lived in Awka for 29 years.

One of the security guards, who gave his name as Mr. Aliyu, narrated that the suspect came with a cyclist at about 4am and climbed up the transformer with a big cutter while his partner mounted the bike waiting for him.

Mr. Aliyu said a resident alerted him on phone that someone was vanderlizing their transformer, then he mobilized and swooped on him while his accomplice escaped on motorcycle.

The security guard claimed that the suspects had attempted to vandalize same transformer two weeks ago but could not succeed.

The suspect, Philip, who said he had been in the business for a long time, noted that he used to sell the stolen cables to persons in Onitsha, who paid #400,000.00 for one kilo of each wire.

According to the suspect, he is married with two kids and had been doing all sorts of minial jobs, including Alumaco installation.

The suspect also confirmed that he had been in police custody four consecutive times, including alleged murder case but managed to be set free by the operatives.

When contacted on telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikemga, said he was yet to be briefed on the matter and promised to get back to our reporter when the information is available.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the suspect was taken away by officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC who said he would be handed over to the police for further investigation.
