GUARD YOUR CHILDREN AGAINST SUBSTANCE ABUSE: NDLEA ADVICES PARENTS

REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) has advised parents in Abia State to take changes in the behavioural traits of their children seriously to mitigate noticable problems early enough.

The State Commander of the agency, Mr. Yusuf Aboki, gave the advice in an interaction with Radio Nigeria.

Mr. Aboki said sudden changes in behavioural traits could serve as an early sign of substance abuse and the best time for parents to take prompt action towards helping the child not to go further.

The NDLEA boss listed self isolation from their parents and siblings, unnecessary aggression, constantly licking sweets when entering the house in a bid to hide the odour of the drugs he or she might be abusing and the eyes being unusually and unnecessarily red as such behavioral traits to look out for to.

Mr. Aboki also warned parents against lavisihing their young children with so much money, explaining that this was funding the drug consumption habit of some children, prompting many of them to start stealing to sustain the addiction when such monies were no longer forthcoming.

He therefore called on parents, especially mothers, to pay close attention to their children to guide them on the right path to becoming responsible adults in the future.
