Governor Ifeanyi Inaugurates New Radio station in Enugu

Media, Driving Force for Advancement of Democracy – Gov Ugwuanyi. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State said yesterday that media organizations in any clime are instruments for the advancement of good governance and democracy. Speaking during the official opening of Urban Radio 94.5 FM Enugu, a private media outfit, Gov Ugwuanyi noted that its establishment was a welcome development which came at a time when the state government was making frantic efforts to attract more investments to the state.

He also stated that the station would enhance present government efforts to ensure greater awareness, cooperation and participation of
the citizens in the activities and programmes of the present administration in the state. While commending the management of the new station for its vision in establishing the outfit in Enugu, the governor emphasized the importance of the media in the development of the society, saying that no democracy could enjoy appreciable progress in the absence of vibrant media and communication establishments.

He, therefore, urged the organization to ensure that it contributes its due quota to the current efforts by his administration to bring
about rapid and sustainable development to the state through promotion of issues and values that would engender development, social justice, security as well as peace and unity in the state and the nation at large.

Governor Ugwuanyi who promised that the government would partner and cooperate with the station in the effective discharge of its duties
for the benefit of the society, disclosed that his administration had endeavored to cultivate and maintain a cordial working relationship
with journalists and media organizations.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of Urban Radio, Engr. Chike Madueke thanked the governor for his show of solidarity and
support towards the fulfillment of his dream to contribute in the socio economic development of the society through the media.
He pointed out that the project was in keeping with the vision of the state government to woo investors and collaborate with the private
sector to promote economic advancement as was evidenced during the recent Enugu State Investment Summit, noting that their programmes
will focus on encouraging institutional development and growth in the state with a view to building Enugu State as the investment
destination in the Eastern Region.
