The Imo State Government has approved the immediate promotion of civil servants under its employ that have stagnated in the past eight years.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Decland Emelumba, announced this while briefing journalists at the end of a state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Hope Uzodimma at the Government House, Owerri.

Mr. Emelumba explained that the gesture was in fulfillment of the promise the Governor made in a meeting he held recently recently with the workers.

The Commissioner pointed out that government was determined to improve the welfare of the workforce to enhance productivity.

The Commissioner also stated that government had paid counterpart funding for a World Bank assisted project known as “Livestock Production and Other Resilience Support Programmes” aimed at assisting rural dwellers, who engaged in livestock farming.

Chief Emelumba noted that the Council was delighted that massive road construction had commenced across the state in line with the assurance given by the Governor that work would be intensified as soon as rains subsided.

Meanwhile, two new commissioners were earlier inaugurated by Governor Uzodimma to strengthen his cabinet.
