GOV UMAHI WINS FRESH APC EBONYI SOUTH SENATORIAL PRIMARY

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has won a fresh APC senatorial primary election conducted for Ebonyi South District.

Announcing the result of the election at Afikpo North Headquarters, the Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Professor Emmanuel Adebayo, declared that Governor Umahi secured 250 votes to defeat five other candidates, including his immediate younger brother, Deacon Austin Umahi and Mrs. Ann Agomeze, who was present at the venue.

Governor Umahi, in his acceptance speech, described the ticket as a strong one and commended other candidates for their participation.

APC Chairman in the state, Chief Stanley Okoroemegha, described the election as free and fair.

He described the controversy surrounding the senatorial primary as the handiwork of an opposition party.

The fresh election was in compliance with a judgment by a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, which ordered that another APC senatorial primary election be held in the district to accommodate Mrs. Agomeze.

Mrs. Agomeze, who was the runner up in the first primary, which took place in 28th May, 2022, has since appealed the Federal High Court judgment, praying that she be declared the rightful candidate of the party, considering that the first winner of the Primary, Deacon Austin Umahi withdrew.
