Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has sacked over one thousand of his aides barely two days after dissolving his cabinet, which also affected over eighty commissioners and Special Assistants.

He announced this at a state broadcast to mark his sixth year anniversary in office at Government House Abakaliki.

The affected aides were Executive Assistants to the Governor Senior Technical Assistants, Technical Assistants, Liaison Officers, Advisory and Management Committee members.

Others were members of Boards and Commissions except Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission, Judiciary Service Commission and Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission.

Governor Umahi said the dissolution of his cabinet a few days ago and the sacking of his aids followed reports that some of them were not happy with their remunerations while other have sympathy for the opposition and would like to contest Election.

He called on public office holders in the state to rise and condemn those waging attacks on the police and challenged Local Government Chairmen and Security Agents to ensure that people go about their private engagements against the sit at home order by agitators.

Governor Umahi said his administration had achieved the dreams of the founding fathers of the state, emphasising that a date would be set aside to celebrate a former Head of State, President Sani Abacha for creating the state in 1996.
