FUEL PRICE HITS N250 A LITRE IN ENUGU, INDEPENDENT MARKETERS CELEBRATE LACK OF MONITORS

FUEL - SCARCITYFuel marketers in Enugu State seem to have gone wild in illegally adjusting the pump price of petrol by the minute following the turning of blind eye by monitors in the state. Within a space of seventy two hours, the pump price is adjusted between N160 and N250 and counting.

Radio Nigeria Correspondents across the state report that fuel pumps are adjusted on the hour as the day passes on. One is not sure of what is sold. Ten litres could turn out to be 5 litres when properly measured. The pumps are badly adjusted. The big eight stations have drawn a quiet time table where only a particular station sells the product for a few hours and shorts down. Even at the official pump price of N86.500, buyers are forced to buy unwanted products or be refused access to purchase fuel. You even pat with N1,000 if you want a full tank or be contented with buying only 20 litres.

The independent marketers take over and sell fuel at whatever price they deem fit under the watch of monitors. According to an independent marketer on anonymity said “this is our time. We must maximize profit. We pay the monitors huge sums of money, sometimes up to 500 thousand from one single loading. This is Nigeria you know, if you don’t pay, they seal you off”. The big marketers sell to us at N190, we then sell N240 or N250”
