The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is to deploy 720 personnel and 670 special marshals for traffic control across Anambra State during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Anambra State, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, disclosed this during the inauguration of Ember Months Operation in the state.

The exercise, which took place at Onitsha Bridgehead, is aimed at achieving safe motoring environment and free flow of traffic across the state during the Yuletide.

Mr. Kumapayi assured motorists that the corps’ major focus would be at Onitsha Bridgehead and Nteje, stressing that there would be no enforcement rather the ember month operation would focus on traffic control.

Earlier, Governor Willie Obiano, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, observed that the Onitsha Bridgehead usually experienced gridlock during festive period saying that the state is a gateway into the southeast and to many other parts of the country.

He explained that the Ember Month’s Operation would be a joint exercise that would integrate input from all security agencies across the state.

The Deputy Corps Commander, from the Delta State FRSC Command, Mr. DCC Bakare assured that they would partner Anambra State on the initiative through provision of toll trucks to remove faulty vehicles that might pose obstruction to free flow of traffic.

The theme for the ember month safety campaign is “drive safe stay safe.”
