FLOOD RAVAGE HUNDREDS OF HOMES AT EMENE

Flood-in-EmeneResidents of Ojo Community in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have appealed to the State Government and public spirited individuals to come to their aid.

They made the appeal following a devastating flood which occurred in the area as a result of downpour.

About ten streets with over two hundred houses including shops were submerged by the flood, while property worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, one of the residents, the Public Relations Officer, Environmental Health Officers Association, Enugu State Chapter, Mr. Michael Oke claimed that the flooding was due to the absence or inadequate drainage channels in the area.

Mr. Anthony Ifediba stated that some residents of the area had petitioned the Town Planning Authority over some structures suspected to be blocking waterways.

Also, Mrs. ChinenyeAjogwu regretted that the residents had suffered great losses as a result of frequent flooding of the area.

Mrs. Ajogwustated that after a similar incident last year, the people complained to various authorities which promised to take action to prevent a recurrence.
