FIRE RAZES SHOPS AT ONITSHA MAIN MARKET

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

Property and goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed by fire in Onitsha, Anambra State.

An eyewitness, who didn’t give his name, said two block of shops within the section of Main Market known as Kano Street were razed by the inferno.

He claimed that efforts by fire fighters, who arrived at the scene, shortly to put out the fire, was not quite successful as the fire continued raging.

Confirming the incident, The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, said the situation was under control.

He noted that no life was lost in the incident, which was reportedly caused by an electrical surge from a cosmetics store in one of the storey buildings in the market.

The PPRO advised members of the public to always turn off their appliances before leaving the house, offices and market stalls.
