Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed by fire at the Coal Camp Motor Spare Parts Market in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State. The fire, which began in the early hours on Sunday, lasted for more than one and destroyed over five shops in the spare parts market.

One of the affected traders, Mr. Martins Udeh, said he was called around one o’clock in the morning that his shop was on fire.  Mr. Udeh said he rushed to the market and saw that his goods had been totally destroyed.

Mr. Udeh appealed to the Enugu State Government to assist him and other victims of the inferno. Narrating what transpired, a security man in the market, Mr. Koko Michael, said he heard a heavy sound suspected to be electric spark from one of the shops after which the inferno started.

He stated that he alerted the Chairman of the market on the unfortunate development.

Also reacting, the Chairman of Coal Camp Motor Spare Parts Market Union, Mr. Uwaezuoke Agbo, expressed regret at the unfortunate incident in the market, stressing that property damaged in the inferno were mind boggling. Radio Nigeria gathered that the fire was later brought under control through the efforts of the Enugu State Fire Service.
