The Federal Government says it is taking steps to strengthen security at the correctional service, police formations and the state at large to contain emerging security challenges in the area.
Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo stated this while speaking with journalists after inspecting the level of damage at the Custodian Centre and Police headquarters in Owerri following Monday’s attack by gunmen.
He described the incident as cowardly, noting that any attack on institutions of law and order was an attack on the well being of the citizens.
Vice President Osinbajo, who frowned at the forceful release of inmates of the correctional centre by gunmen, noted that such action posed threat to the welfare of citizens.
The Vice President assured residents of Imo State of adequate security, noting that the Federal Government was already consulting with heads of security agencies in the state to ensure lasting peace.
Professor Osinbajo was accompanied to the inspection by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
