FG TAKES OVER DAVID UMAHI UNIVERSITY, VC PROMISES CHEAPER FEES

The Federal Government has upgraded Ebonyi State owned David Umahi University of Health Sciences Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area to a Federal University of Health Sciences for the South East zone.

This followed an approval by President Muhammadu Buhari during his last working visit to the state few months ago.

President Muhammadu Buhari had during a working visit to Ebonyi State on May 5, 2022 inaugurated David Umahi University of Health Sciences Uburu and also approved a request by the state government that the institution be taken over by the Federal Government.

Briefing journalists in Uburu, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Jessie Uneke, explained that a Memorandum of Understanding had been signed between Ebony State and the Federal Government to formalize the pronouncement.

He noted that the institution would serve the South East zone in line with the policy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to have such institution in all the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Professor Uneke emphasised that the development had resulted in the reduction of the Tuition Fee while other interventions were underway to reposition the Institution as the best in the country.

The Vice Chancellor commended the National Universities Commission for approving 17 programmes in 19 departments for academic exercise in the Institution.
