FERMA BEGINS REHABILITATION OF ONITSHA-OWERRI ROAD AND OTHER ROADS IN THE SOUTH EAST

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has embarked on rehabilitation of Owerri-Onitsha Expressway in compliance with the “Operation Safe Passage Programme” of the Federal Government launched ahead of the 2018 yuletide.

Also receiving attention in the South East are the Owerri – Elele dual carriage way and the Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressway.

Speaking to journalists at the Owerri axis of the Owerri -Onitsha dual carriage way, the FERMA Engineerin Imo State, Mr. Chukwuemeka Maduagwu, said the Agency was collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to repair all the failed portions of the roads.

He said the interventions included strengthening of weak sections of the roads, de-silting and opening of water channels to ensure free flow of water during the rainy season.

Some Motorists, who ply Owerri-Onitsha road, commended Federal Government for embarking on the job, noting that the measure had started reducing traffic at the failed sections.

Radio Nigeria observes that the rehabilitation work is being carried out at midnights to avoid obstruction of movement on the road.
