EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING SAVES INFANTS FROM CHILD KILLER DISEASES — UNICEF

The Chief, United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, Enugu Field Office, Dr Ibrahim Conteh gave the advice in Enugu, during Media Dialogue on the 2021 World Breastfeeding Week organized by UNICEF and Abia State Broadcasting Corporation, BCA.

Dr Conteh noted that exclusive breastfeeding helps protect babies against dangerous illnesses. He explained that breast milk is the only food and drink an infant needs until the age of six months.

Speaking on the breastfeeding week, the Enugu State Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Princess Peace Nnaji noted that the state government ensures that nursing mothers were given maternity leave to enable them breastfeed their babies exclusively.

Princess Nnaji stressed that the ministry would sustain its collaboration with UNICEF, to ensure that women and children continue to occupy a pride of place in Enugu State. The workshop which was well attended by Media Professionals as well as officials from ministries and UNICEF, also featured lectures by health experts
